would it be wise to make a sword of tungsten?

is it too brittle? will it take and keep an edge, or have one restored, if not? can it be readily (or at all) alloyed with steel or titanium, and would this help? the goal is an unbreakable rust-free (destructive rust, at least) hyper lever and wedge, that will break steel, stone, heads, and the like, and remain unblemished. work with me, here.

You want an unbreakable sword? Go put an edge on a crowbar.

Swords are not designed to be unbreakable, they are a dynamic balance of strength, flexibility and weight. A sword that is unbreakable will be impossible to use and make you a very easy target for the person who is using a breakable, but balanced and light weapon.

A rigid sword will also transfer impact forces to the wrist. Ever hold a solid piece of metal and hit something with it? That vibration you feel up to your shoulder is absorbed by the harmonic properties of a well made sword instead of making your arm go numb from the elbow down.

There's an excellent article on metallurgy in swords at swordforum.com as well as some information about swords made from alternative metals. So far the consensus is that high carbon steel makes the best swords.

Edit:
I just saw the comment above about using 440 stainless steel. Stainless steels tend to be too brittle for use as swords despite the fact lots of companies make swords out of SS. These tend to be decorator swords or in the language of swordsmen SLO's for Sword-Like-Objects. There are some stainless steels that make decent swords, but not many. Please check out Sword Forum.
