What can I do if my old roomates stiff me for our utility bills?

I lived in a house with 4 other girls. We are all college students. I had to move out because they did drugs. The utilities were in my name and to be nice I let them keep the gas in my name for 15 days past when I moved out because they needed to come up with a deposit for service. The bill was $286 and they are now claiming they will only pay me $100 as their share. The agreement was that we would split the utilities evenly. What can I do?

Not sure if there's much you can do for that small of an amount. You have anything in writing and signed off on about how the utilities were to be split?

You could do small claims court -- not sure if there's any sort of fees for going to small claims or not. If there is, it would probably be around $100.

I don't blame you for being mad and you did get hosed, but not sure if there's anything you can really do about it.

If you wanted to play dirty, if you know these other girls parents, you could threaten to call them, ask them for the cash because thier daughters can't pay for it b/c thier cash goes to drugs....
