Intermittent steering wheel vibration on my Corolla after replacing a steel rim?
My 2002 Corolla starting to have steering wheel vibration at highway speed (whenever it is over 70mph) since I got a replacement rim for my front driver side. It doesn't vibrate consistently, it is more like going on and off every 4-5 minutes, that makes it really annoying. I needed to have the steel rim replaced because I hit a pothole pretty hard a month ago and it bent my rim. Would it cause by out of balance/alignment? Or having only replaced the front driver side rim and not the other side? But the intermittent nature of it makes me wounder if it is caused by other part of the vehicle like the CV joint. I had a shop worked on the CV joint not to long ago so I hope it is not the case. Thanks.
Because of what your saying the car is doing and its speed related it has to be related to the pot hole collision. I would have the axle bearings checked. the axles themselves for out of round as well as a damaged hub bearing or huib assembly. If it was bad enough to bed the rim it my have bent something else as well. Any decent front end mechanic should be able to pin point it if he has the tools to check for out of round axles and such. The axle is just a hollow aluminum tube and it may be slightly bent.
