possible for a 40 year old to star riding again?

i am a 40 year old female,used to ride to bhs standard 2 and going on to ai,,,i am unfit and stiff with joints etc,is it possible i could try to ride again,,very scary,,but would love nothing more,,,help plzzz.

Definitely , My wife and I started riding in our 50s. we are now in our mid 60s and have our own horses . we belong to a trail riding club http://www.soggybottomriders.org/ that plans a weekend camping / trail riding once a month through the spring and summer.
We are both retired and our horse activities keeps us active .
I would suggest you follow some of the other answerer's advice and start slow to see how it goes . It's certainly worth the effort
