We are starting a small company that trains kids in golf?

Its very small starting with a few kids. If we get a check made out top lets say Daves Golf lessons can I just go to bank and start an account and deposit or do I need to go to the State Of NJ and make an LLC or something. Like I said its small with a first check being like $150. Thanks

Starting with an LLC is a big step, and the fees and extras associated with it may eat-up a lot of your profits (as well as making your taxes more complicated). You can get a DBA (yourname doing business as Dave's Golf lessons) relatively inexpensively (check with your Chamber of Commerce), and that allows you to open a bank account. But, the least expensive option is just to make it clear to wright out the checks to your name and is completely acceptable in your industry.
