What is the difference between a hybrid iron and a hybrid wood? Do they look different too?

Please note that I am trying to purchase a hybrid iron and do not want to buy a hybrid wood.

Even though the names imply what the purpose of the club is, you can judge by the club face. If it is taller at the toe end than the heel end it's more likely an iron-like hybrid. If it's an even height across the face, it's more likely a wood-like hybrid. I've found the difference is more preference than performance for me.

The wood-like models are a lot more common, but you can find both styles. I have an old set of Tour Edge JMax Ironwood hybrids. They're pretty nice, very forgiving, and they get the ball up nicely. They also use the same club face design as the regular irons which I liked a lot. They are also about $60 brand new, which isn't a bad thing.
