Should I buy 2-hybrid or fairway wood?

I am hitting 200m off my 3-iron. Driver is inconsistant. Would 2-hybrid help off the tee and fairway more than a fairway-wood (say 3 or 5)?

I can hit the ball high, can hit the ball hard, have a very quick swing, handicap 17.
Want to play smarter and safer. Want to average my shots at about 220~230, so I can set up my 2nd shot within my 4-iron clubs.

Any suggestions?
ps. Have a old wooden 3-wood now (graphit shaft), and can only hit 1 out of 10 good shot.
ditch the club?

The hybrid might be better- it has a shorter shaft and a flatter face (depending on what brand you buy- Taylormade is one example of companies blurring the lines between a FW and a hybrid). What you'd lose in distance (less than 10 yards) you'd make up for in accuracy.

Note that a 2 hybrid is between 18-20 degrees, so it'd be more like a 5 wood. You should still upgrade the 3 wood- especially if you're having trouble with it. The heads are larger and more forgiving, and they make a great backup driver for days when the driver doesn't want to do what you tell it to. Either the FW or hybrid will work well of a tee, and the hybrid will probably be better from the rough.
