Forged versus Super Game Improvement irons?
I have been playing with a set of Cobra S9 (reg flex). I'm about a recreational 15 handicapper. I came across of Cobra Forged SS irons (stiff flex) that I picked up for $150 and took them out to the driving range.
Wow! Did these feel great! I can't get the distance all the time that I got with the S9s (maybe because of the stiff flex) but it seemed I could hit them straighter (but lower in height).
Aligning the minimal offset seemed easier too!
Then, going back to the S9s and made a few adjustments and really hit them well but am now thinking, which clubs should I use?
What can I get from these forged irons (that are forgiving) versus the Cobra S9 set?
The decrease in distance in some shots is due to the smaller sweetspot on the forged irons. When hit pure, these irons will produce a much better ball flight, and playing fades or draws will be easier as well. The lower ball flight is produced by a higher center of gravity on the face of the forged irons. For a fifteen handicap, the S9's are probably the way to go. You will get a more consistent, higher ball flight on more of your shots, these clubs are much more forgiving due to the larger sweetwpot.
